Entries

Entry into the competition is not guaranteed. We will be processing entries on a first come first served basis. Please note that due to time constraints entries into categories will be limited. So get your entries in early so as not to be disappointed!

Based on our own discretion Rock the Floor Dance Championships reserves the right to accept or reject entries.

A business cheque must accompany all registration forms in order to be accepted.

Refunds

There are no refunds except in the case of injury in which case a doctor’s note will be required. Refunds can only be obtained prior to a scheduled competition date. There will be no refunds issued after a competition is completed regardless of the reason.

Props

Props are allowed. All props have to be inspected before use by the stage manager. These can be presented upon check in either prior to your performance or when you arrive on site. Please note that prop use is solely at the discretion of the stage manager and there will be no refunds issued for performances that are disrupted due to the stage managers decision to refuse the use of a prop.

If you have any questions pertaining to the use of props then you can certainly email us at any time in which we'd be more than happy to clarify any issues that you may have.

Prop Guidelines

Any props that are free standing must be constructed well for the purposes that they are being used for.

Load bearing props such as platforms must be inspected and tested by the stage manager before use.

Students will be given 3 minutes prior to a performance for the set up of props. Anything that will require more time will have to be noted on the entry form at the time of registration.

The use of fire or fire products are not permitted during performances.

The use of flammable liquids or materials such as torches, flaming pots etc. are not permitted during performances.

Dangerous objects such as real swords, knives, or other sharp instruments or spikes are not permitted for use during performances.

The throwing of objects such as staffs, sticks, powders, dusts, sparkles, liquids etc. is not permitted during performances.

(Please note that special exception can be given for hats and streamers. The concern here is safety surrounding the eyes, nose, and throat. If you have a concern then please check with the stage manager or email us for clarification)

All props are the responsibility of the student/studio director for setting up and dismantling. Rock the Floor Dance Championships are not responsible for lost or stolen items so please secure your effects when you come to the competition.

Disclaimer

Even though our stage manager inspects all props used it is understood that he/she is not a qualified engineer and does not guarantee the performance of said props during the routine.

It is agreed that teachers, competitors, their parents and relatives will not hold Rock the Floor Dance Championships, its directors, staff or employees responsible or liable for any damages, property loss or personal injury which they may sustain while participating in any activity connected with this competition, no matter how caused, to either contestant or spectators.

Spectator and Competitor conduct

Smoking is not permitted in any part of the theatre in which the venue is hosted.

There is no food or drink permitted in the theatre, except for those areas designated by the theatre.

Spectators, competitors, and participating Studio Staff members are expected to conduct themselves in a cordial and respectful manner at all times during the competition.

Back Stage Access

Back stage is reserved for competitors, competitive coaches, (teachers), and stage crews. It is not reserved for parents or event spectators. Staff will kindly remove those who do not belong back stage to the audience area.

Music

All music has to be burned onto CD and the CD clearly marked with Studio Name, Routine number, and Rountine Name on it. Please ensure that you pass in one CD per routine. Do not burn multiple routine songs onto the same CD. All music CD’s must be passed into the DJ at least one hour prior to the scheduled time of performance. (It is advisable to have a back up CD on hand just in case there is something wrong with the original). Also clearly mark on the CD if the competitor starts on stage or in the wings.

Time Limits

Solos/Duets/Trios: 3 Minutes Maximum
Small Groups: 3 Minutes Maximum
Large Groups: 3 Minutes Maximum
Extended Lines: 3 Minutes Maximum
Productions: 6 Minutes Minimum 10 Minutes Maximum
Showcase: 3 minutes Minimum 5 Minutes Maximum

Adjudicator Reporting

All adjudication scores and comments will be tracked on score sheets for each routine. All score sheets will be entered onto a master computer spreadsheet for final score calculation. Results from the spreadsheet will be emailed to the teacher, director, or owner of the studio participating within 48 hours. These results will not be given directly to competitors or parents.

Repeat performances

An entry can repeat a performance under the following conditions.

Technical difficulties due to DJ/ music issues, lighting, or stage malfunctions. The entry will be danced directly after the original performance.

Conduct and Behavior

Each competitor is expected to conduct themselves in a cordial manner when dealing with fellow competitors, spectators, and competition staff. The use of foul or aggressive language may result in the immediate expulsion of the competitor from the competition so please be mindful as everyone is here to have fun and enjoy the day.

Flash Photography and Video taping

Video taping will not be permitted during performances by audience members. Treasured Moments will be professionally video taping all dance entries with adjudication commentary that will be provided to the dance studios participating. Additional copies will be available for purchase from them. Parents will have the opportunity to place orders during the competition or can contact them directly afterwards at any time if they are looking for additional copies.

Flash Photography is not permitted during the performances due to safety issues but is permitted during the award ceremonies.

There will be an official photographer taking pictures during the event. Some pictures will be available to download from our website "free of charge" within 60 days of the competition.

Please note that rules pertaining to the use of flashes will be strictly enforced and anyone attempting to break them may be asked to leave the theatre.

Program Administration

Rock the Floor Dance Championships will not be held liable for any misprints or omissions in the Dance program.
Rock the Floor Dance Championships reserves the right to cancel or reschedule entries as they see fit.
Rock the Floor Dance Championships reserves the right to move venue locations if for some unforeseen reason the current location becomes unavailable.
It is agreed by all competitors, studio Directors, and teachers that all decisions of the judges are final and that there is no avenue for appealing judges decisions afterwards.

Awards

All cash prizes are made out to the name of the studio and issued to the studio director.

Theatre Admission

There is no charge for theatre admission.
